Clutter Chaos

This is what our guest room closet looks like...

...except it's twice as cluttered and half as pretty.

I've been meaning to clean the clutter and organize this mess of a space for weeks. Unfortunately, not only have I neglected it, but I haven't done any upkeep...which means the clutter has actually become much, much worse.

Any suggestions on how to break down the project so as to prevent me from losing my mind???

Some clean closet/dressing room inspiration for us all:

I actually help people clean stuff for fun. Here's my best advice. Go into the room and 1. If you haven't worn it in a year--get rid. 2. If you haven't seen it/remembered you had it for a year--get rid. 3. If it's something you've used once and MAY use again in the next 10 years--get rid, chances are someone will let you borrow it.

Mainly go through and get rid of stuff and then organize what you have left. Good luck!

I wish I had a whole room to use as a closet. One thing I do to keep things under control is to separate clothes by color and season. It is so much easier to find what you are looking for. Also, after every season I do a quick sort through and donate anything I didn't wear that year. It keeps the closet looking a lot neater without extraneous items taking up space.

You should definitely start with lying to yourself. My favorites are "oh, it wont' be that bad." "This will only take an hour or two." "I'll bet there are treasures buried in here!" Then, put on some great music, grab your favorite coffee or soda, and make it happen. Also, promise yourself something wonderful when you finish (shopping, show, etc.). Bribing yourself works wonders!

Lovely inspiration photographs! Just get rid of everything. Only keep what you LOVE.

I'm in the middle of a closet revamp. I go through my clothes about every season. If I didn't wear it the season before chances are I won't wear it again and I give it to good will. It feel good to purge! Good luck to you, whatever you do it's going to look fabulous!
