My Style

CITY-SLICKER CHIC
You're going for the ultimate living environment. You like a home that is sleek, masculine and generally understated. Only those in the know will be able to spot the touches of genuinely 'flash' kit - the designer logos, the top-of-the-range gizmos. In the end it'll all looks effortlessly cool but there's still a bit more time, thought and hard graft to be done to get everything spot on.

Conclusion
You're the consummate international playboy, at home around the world, but never more so than in your elegant 'pad' with its emphasis on hedonism and the finer things in life.

hahaha, what interesting results! There's an even bigger description, but it was too big to post. Basically, it continued to discuss my "manly, modern style". Too funny! Our home is definitley gender neutral - I just didn't realize my style was so masculine! I guess it makes sense, though, since I have made sure to keep our home void of frills, lace, and flowers. Not only does Ben despise "girly" decor, but I can't stand it either! So, I would have to say that my style quiz results are right on target. :)

Chandelier

I'm sorry I've been such a slacker!

We've actually made several little changes throughout the house these past few weeks, so I SHOULD have been posting pictures...but I've just been so busy with work, cleaning, and having company over that I've neglected my poor little blog!

However, I just have to share this amazing giveaway over at Restyled Home:

Chandelier decal, from Wilson Graphics

Isn't it fabulous?! I hope I win because I can think of about a million places to hang it in our newlywed nest!

Lamp Love

The lamp hunt is on!

If you refer to my previous post, you'll see the Peace Lily I gave my husband last year when he was sick. He loves it and so do I - but I just don't think it looks right next to the couch. I have been wanting to replace it with a large, modern lamp, but Ben (my husband) insisted on keeping his little plant friend there. Last night, I showed him how much better it would look by the entertainment stand and he finally saw the light (no pun intended). Thus began the great lamp search.

The lamps at Target are too traditional and the lamps at Walmart are much too small, but the lamps at Bed Bath and Beyond are juuuuuust right:

Rekha White Table Lamp

Black Chrome-Finish Ceramic Table Lamp

Polished Chrome-Finish Ceramic Table Lamp

Leandra Black Table Lamp

Contemporary Table Lamp

So, what do you think? A few of them might be a little too creamy since our couch and chair are already oatmeal colored. There's also a gorgoeus lamp at TJMAXX, but I don't have a picture of it.

Ben (my husband) and I are going shopping this weekend, so hopefully I'll be able to show you all my new lamp next time I write a post!

Happy Friday!!

Mirror, Mirror

The husband and I finally found a mirror for the wall above the couch! The problem was that we have 10' ceilings, so anything we hung on the wall had to be at least 45" long or else it would look dwarfed. After literally MONTHS of searching, we found this beauty at Bed Bath & Beyond for $79.99 on sale for $39.99, plus 20% off with a coupon!

Since the gold tinged frame really isn't our style, I whipped out my black acrylic paint and this is what we ended up with:

Here is a view of our lovely new mirror on the wall above our couch:

I just love how it opens up the room! Next on my list: replace the plant on the end table with a gorgeous table lamp. I have a few ideas but will post them later because it's time to finish watching You've Got Mail with the husband. Hope you all are having a fantastic weekend! :)

Wish No More!

I can scratch the floating shelves off my wish list because Dear Husband let me buy them!

Here is a pic of one of the shelves as advertised on target.com:
And here is a pic of two of the shelves hanging in our Master Bedroom:

What do you think? The colors of the candlesticks and inside the frames complement a painting we bought on our honeymoon in Jamaica that hangs on another wall in the room (more pics to come later).

Oh, and in case you didn't notice, the candlesticks are the ones I purchased for $1 each from the thrift store!

Also, all of the frames were purchased from thrift stores, painted with white acrylic paint, and then filled with scrapbook paper. Cheap, easy, and (I think) pretty!

So, what fun projects have you done that you now proudly display in your home?
