IKEA Snobs

Why do some people have such disdain for IKEA? They sell chic, contemporary and - the best part - economical products. Yes, some of the furniture can be a bit flimsy. However, there are several items that have proven to be versatile and long-lasting. Plus, with items sold at 1/4 the average cost of its high-end competitors, IKEA seems to be an excellent alternative. Check out these fabulous, affordable IKEA pieces from a few of my favorite bloggers.

At long last, here is a picture of our beloved Mongstad mirror from IKEA, now residing in our Master Bedroom.
It is massive and we love it!

What are your thoughts on this admittedly Walmart-esque home decor giant?

I have a couple of bookcases from Ikea and I'm pretty happy with the quality in relation to the price I paid for them. Ikea offers quite a few affordable, clean-lined pieces that can be customized with the addition of mouldings, a paint treatment or new hardware.

Personally, I think it's great that there is a place where people with limited resources can find stylish furniture at a price point that they can afford.

I love Ikea - pity there is only one in my vicinity and that is nearly 40km away!

I have never been into an Ikea, and it's making me crazy! I think I would love it. We're looking for a big black full length mirror like yours, so now I have a good excuse to go. I think our closest store in San Diego, so maybe I can plan a little weekend getaway soon. : )

I love Ikea and although I've never purchased any furniture there myself, I think it is a practical and (for the most part) durable product- at least from what I've seen. And since the buyer assembles the product, a lot of the quality depends on the assembler themselves. What I do have from Ikea are two of their Jonsbo Barby lamps which I love!

It appears we follow the same blogs. Not surprising. Ikea is truly my favorite and I've been coveting that mirror for years because it's MASSIVE. Thanks for the shout out and I'm loving your above post with the doors. Amazing details. It makes me sad that our city is so new, no cool old buildings to admire.

He he. I kind of am an Ikea snob. There. I said it. But don't get be wrong! I have TONS of ikea in my home. I can not speak for all ikea snobs, but for myself, I think I just get fed up with the idea of a "paint by number" Ikea house. Mix it up! Grab an ikea mirror and mix it with some interesting items in your bed room! AND, YOU DID THAT! I think Ikea snobs are only snobby when people idealize ikea...instead of using it creatively. Besides, I have to say, no one can beat their swedish meat ball meal!!!

P.S. I think part of the disdain comes from the fact that it doesnt really grow with you. If you move, it often breaks. Not built to last. Bummer.

That's why IKEA gets snobbed because it's economical. People are all about the price tag because that means high status. Not for me though, i'm economical all the way and i do love IKEA as well. Sure if I had the money i'd buy the real deal but since I don't, modern furniture replica will do. Sometimes it's a matter of having the style to put cheap things together than having the money to buy anything even if it doesnt look good. Oops sorry for the rant.
