For Now

I'm afraid I'm just too indecisive to settle on a web design. If I bought one, I'd probably end up wanting a change next week and would have wasted my money and the designer's time. So, for now, I'm settling for this one. It's a bit bold, but it works.

I can't decide what to do with our dining room. It has charcoal-colored walls, a white chair rail, a small white cabinet, and is decorated with silver pictures and mirrors. I love all of that, but the problem is that the table in the very center of the dining area is about 20 years old and was a hand-me-down from my grandma...so you can imagine what it looks like! Faux oak wood, lots of detailing on the oddly shaped chairs, etc.

We're currently living in an apartment and have neither the space nor the funds to purchase a table set that we can "grow into". I started to paint the table last summer about a week before my wedding. Eight cans of spray-paint later, I realized that I should have primed the piece first because all of the wood was showing through.

So, the table is currently hidden by a white tablecloth and four gray place-mats. I'm thinking of buying a vintage/modern runner to dress it up a bit but I have no idea what to do about those hideous chairs! They really stand out like a sore thumb amidst our contemporary accessories.

Oh well. Until we can afford to make a more drastic change, I will have to settle for day-dreaming about these glorious dining rooms...

Lovely inspiration photos! I'm making do, too, with an inexpensive dining table that I purchased in graduate school -- it's got cat scratches on it, some of the finish has mysteriously fallen off....but until I can afford my "dream" table, I really don't want to put down the money for something that I just feel "OK" about. So, for now, it's all about pretty runners and reupholstering the chair seats!

The third one is my favorite but they all are lovely. Tough choices but when you are dreaming no choice need be made...enjoy!

Hi there. I saw your blog linked from All Bower Power. We struggled with the same issue as we. We had a hand-me-down table from my husband's grandma that really was not in the style of the rest of our house. The wood also didn't match anything we had, so it was covered with a table cloth. We finally (just last week, actually) purchased a new table and absolutely love it. I hope you are able to get your own dining set soon!

Also here's a ton of beautiful web designs that are absolutely free. http://www.freecsstemplates.org/css-templates/

I love chairs. So much. I love the West Elm ones & an dying for a set of Panton S chairs, myself. Sigh, someday perhaps!

All the dining rooms are exquisite;however,in between daydreaming of your future dining room, why not take another shot at your existing dining room table. A firm believer that anything can be salvaged and having transformed many furniture pieces myself, you are definitely right, primer is key. Why not post a picture and have your audience offer makeover suggestions? And maybe you can transform your existing table into something so special that you may not want to part with it after all.
